Tiwai Island Adventure
Tiwai Island, famed for its elusive Pygmy Hippos (hint: you are never going to find them!).
The real charm of the place is its tranquilness and a feeling of getting away, being totally ensconced with nature. Tiwai is one of the more amenable nature getaways in the country, with ecolodges set in a quiet spot in the forest by the river.
Activities include hiking through the forest, rafting on the Moa river, cycling, and birdwatching. You will almost certainly see plenty of monkeys and likely other wild animals (just not pygmy hippos!)
Getting to Tiwai can be a hassle - the road there is not good and it can be hard to arrange a stay. Book with Xtreme Xcursions and we will ensure you have transport, good food, comfortable sleeping arrangements and the best forest and wildlife guides, so you don’t need to worry about quality.
